Overview
Microsoft Services for NetWare version 5 provides a complete set of new
interoperability utilities that help Novell customers simplify the adoption of
Windows 2000 Server into a Novell network environment, reduce multi-platform
network administration, and facilitate the migration of NetWare resources to
Windows 2000 Server.
Features
Single Point of Directory Administration
Is enabled through 1-way synchronisation, where changes that are made in Active
Directory are propagated to NDS via synchronisation. By enabling 1-way
synchronisation, organisations can manage both AD and NDS through Active
Directory interface.
Bi-directional Synchronisation
allows changes to be read in both AD and NDS and synchronise those changes with
each other. Consequently, changes can be made in either directory, read by MSDSS,
and then pushed out to the unupdated directory. 2-way sync should be used in
network environments where there is a strong need to manage both directories
separately and have the information that is changed in one reflected in the
other.
Object-Level Synchronization
During the synchronisation process only objects are synchronised, not the entire
tree structure they are organised in. This lowers synchronisation traffic across
the network by only synchronising those objects that have changed, allows
objects to be organised in each directory any way a customers want and tracks
objects as they change.
